What Is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is a non-infectious irritation of the plantar fascia—the band of connective tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot and links the heel bone to the toes. It’s one of the most common reasons people experience heel pain. Runners are especially prone to it, but it also frequently affects individuals who are overweight or who regularly wear footwear that lacks proper support.

What Causes Plantar Fasciitis?

Normally, the plantar fascia acts like a shock-absorbing bowstring that helps maintain the foot’s arch. When this tissue is exposed to excessive strain or pressure, small tears can form, leading to inflammation and discomfort. Plantar fasciitis usually results from overuse or strain. Common contributing factors include Overuse activities, Foot mechanics, Tight muscles, Improper footwear, Sudden increase in activity, & Excess body weight, increasing pressure on the foot.

What Are Symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis?

The condition usually produces noticeable pain near the heel on the underside of the foot. The discomfort often feels worse first thing in the morning, after physical activity, or following long periods of sitting or standing. Typical signs of plantar fasciitis include Sharp heel pain, pain that improves with movement, stiffness or soreness in the arch or heel, & tenderness on the bottom of the foot near the heel.

Treatment For Plantar Fasciitis

Most people recover within a few months using conservative approaches such as rest, ice application, and stretching exercises.

Conservative Care

Over-the-counter pain relievers and anti-inflammatory medications—like ibuprofen or naproxen—can help lessen pain and swelling.
